I don’t know what I would have done without Cara! My contractions came on so quickly and intense that the birth was very quick. I didn’t have time to wrap my head around what was happening or what I needed to do. Cara helped ground me and redirect my attention to what I needed to do. She has such a calming presence and so much knowledge on caring for you during pregnancy and birth. She really helped me remember what I wanted and helped me achieve it. My husband and I are forever grateful for Cara.
What would you say was your biggest fear or worry about birth that led you to hire a doula? Did it play out as expected and how did having a doula help you work through that fear? I feared not feeling in control of my birth or the care of my baby. I didn’t want to feel powerless. I definitely know that having a doula helped me remember what I felt was important and helped me stand my ground for what I wanted. My doula helped keep me informed on my decisions and reminded me why I made those decisions.
What, specifically, was the most helpful part of doula support and why? Not having to go through birth alone and having knowledge about what is happening with my body and the baby during labor. Also, having someone redirect your attention in moments of intensity.
What, specifically, was the most unexpected perk of having a doula? Gaining more knowledge about pain management and the birthing process. I learned so much.
If a best friend was considering a doula, what would you tell them? Is there anything specific you recommend about me? Hire a doula! Cara will be so informative, kind, respectful and empathetic.
What part of doula care was most valuable to you? Helping me find my confidence in myself and reminding me what’s important to me.
Why did you choose me as your doula? Was there an obvious advantage or anything specific that made me stand out in some way? Your nurturing, passionate and empathetic toward all people. You are also very knowledgeable about informed consent, human anatomy, pain management and the overall birth experience.
